第四十錯覚; 「voice」

For those new or haven't kept up with anything, Lavi and Cross are gone. [Kanda's voice is completely focused on the business side of things, not allowing any emotions to leak in. Things can't be done if he's busy brooding or moping or whatever.

Right now? Kanda just wants to get out of here. Out of Nesreca, away from Credinta, out of Russia. Enough is enough.]

Cross left some money to me, and I imagine supplies are pretty low. Tell me what you need and I'll go to Credinta, preferably alone.

[There's a pause that lasts for a moment or two, as if trying to gather his thoughts.]

It's been several years. We need to make more active attempts in getting the hell out of here, whether it be returning to our own worlds, or finding a way to take someone with us. [He's tired of just living, just surviving; it's not worth it anymore. Not to mention that he's utterly failed in a promise to Allen that he wasn't doing just that, and he needs to make amends on that promise.]

Projects on fixing things can wait. Getting out of here, whether it be through killing Libitina's master, freeing Libitina, or flat out walking to another country, we need to do it.

Preferably before another several years pass.

12th Reading [Video]

[The feed comes on, and Raven is bundled up for the cold, like she's just come inside.]

When's the last time anyone saw Lavi in person? I've...checked at least one of his hiding spots I know about, and I'm going to go check his room.

[Her voice is remarkably calm--even if she herself is not. Very much not...]

Final Letter Home ✉ ❶st Night | Medical Chart 01 [Video]

[For the first time in months, Kiriko's PDA clicks on, but the man kneeling in the dirt on screen is nearly unrecognizable. Much more time has passed for the boy than for the residents of Nesreca: his hair has grown a few inches, and his once well-kept uniform is tattered and filthy. Most notably, there is a bandage around his eyes - Kiriko slowly lifts his trembling hands to remove it. There are wide friction burns around his wrists, as though he had recently been tied up. As the bandage comes off, Kiriko lowers his head, and his blond hair spills over his face. He moans.]

Where...?

[When he does look up, where his left blue eye should be is a bloody and empty socket. His thoughts foggy, Kiriko's memories of this place are slow to return. He turns his head in a feverish daze, but the scenery doesn't register. He moans, falling forward onto his hands. He stays that way a moment before allowing his body to collapse, resting in the cool snow.

It’s not long until a pair of black boots come into view. The owner is not visible from above the knees, because of the angle in which PDA is recording the video. But it’s a woman, obvious from the style of her shoes and the light voice she speaks with.]

Hey. You dead?

[She nudges him with her foot. Not the most compassionate way to look for signs of life, but hey, no reason to get her hands dirty if she doesn’t have to.

Kiriko reacts as though he's been struck by a cattle prod, and rolls onto his back with a shout. When he looks upon the woman's face, his expression warps into horror and disgust, less like a soldier in battle and more like a terrified child.]

W-Who are you?! What the fuck do you want?! [He reaches for his belt as if to draw a weapon, but finds he's been disarmed.]

Relax. [Her voice drawls from above.] I’m not going to hurt you. Looks like you went through hell anyway.

In fact, I might just be convinced to help.

[She crouches beside him, of course at a reasonable distance to avoid at blows he might throw her way. It’s now that her face comes into view; She might have been considered attractive if it wasn’t for the discolored skin and scar covering the left side of her face. There’s a bemused smirk playing on her lips, as if life was a game she just so happened to be winning at.]

So solider, let’s start with your name.

[Kiriko swallows, and his fingers are digging so hard into the dirt that his knucles turn white. He looks ready to attack her - at least, he would, if he could so much as sit up without fainting.]

...Kiriko George.

[She flinches as though struck and her expression darkens with a scowl.] Haha. Real funny. [As deadpan as deadpan can get.] Have a serious answer hiding in that messed up head of yours? [And yet, he does look an awful lot like the woman who happens to share that name. A coincidence, or a joke?]

[Kiriko coughs, his fever putting him back into a daze, but he manages to spit back:] You bitch! If this is about my Dad, fuck you! Tell me where you've taken me, or I'm going to kill you---!

Big words from a man lying on his back.

[She’s not scared of him in the slightest. He’s barely conscious and unarmed; the only person he’s going to get killed is himself. She looks over the pathetic man before her, because he does look like a mirror of her very own death dealer back home, and even the rational part of her mind agrees that something crazy is happening.]

I’ll need more than idle threats to prove you are who you think you are. [Though the threats do help.]

I don't need to prove a damn thing to you...!

[At this point, Kiriko snaps, jumping to his feet and lunging towards her. He reaches for her neck and misses, his fingernails clawing at her face with all the strength he has left.

Bad move, Kiriko. He’s far too close for comfort, so she finds herself reflectively retaliating. She pushes his hands away and then there’s a mean right hook heading right at his face. Without the strength to dodge, it connects with a crack and Kiriko collapses at her feet. The feed ends.]

13th Death

[well look who's gone and decided to play in the snow? that's right, this guy. well at this point he's mostly just sitting in the snow and piling it up in one spot. it's supposed to be a snowman but it's kind of...okay it's bad but it's his first attempt, alright?

Dextera hums a little. he's never been in a position where the elements didn't hurt him so this was a welcome change even if it was cold.

wrapping his coat a little tighter around him, Dextera turns his attention to the PDA and types something out.]

This is fun. I don't think I've done this before but it's nice.

[....oh, right while he's at it!]

Thank you for the things. They're nice too.

[even if it took him awhile to open them up because him and boxes don't get along back home...

Dextera resumes trying to build his fail snowman but eventually types something else out later.]

Libitina? Do you want to play in the snow with me?

[The feed is showing the side of a building but it's moving around a bit. It eventually shows where the wall meets the ground to reveal... an odd looking helmet. It looks like an astronaut's helmet or something.]

I'm dead. [Finally, a woman's voice is heard.] I'm dead. They're all dead. And the afterlife has cellphones. I don't know what's going on. Maybe I'm in a coma and this is some-

[The red light that cues the phone is recording is finally noticed. She looks at the screen for a second and the viewer can see a beautiful woman with long dark hair, bright green eyes, and... yes, that's a space suit.]

[Not realizing that this feed is being sent out to other devices, she looks around the area for a second, before shutting it off. Maybe she can make a recorded journal or something, but if she's really alive, then she has to figure out how to survive and what's going on.]

Chapter Thirty-Two [Video]

[The view is trembling a little as it's being shown off, nothing of the owner but the ID registers as Lavi's. Right now the view is of a bunch of white, shadowed white.

Then his voice comes on, chattering with cold (pretend please, it's annoying to type out) which explains why the view is shaking.]

Tunnels are dug, made it to the closest church, the school, and the train station. I'll try and blow out more tomorrow, this took me three days. [It's been three days since the blizzard blew out after all.]

From the station to the river probably then south to the square from here. Don't worry about cave-ins. There's ice between you and the snow now. [His fire snake did that for him.]

Everyone enjoy their presents?

[[ooc; I didn't post it on the Christmas post but Lavi's are here on the first sheet.]]

Fifth Trick [Video]

[The video comes on as the device hits the ground, falling out of Loki's pocket. He's sitting on the ground, holding a golden, horned helm in his arms and has blood on his face, chest, forearms, hands and little spatters of it on his lower body. He looks to be in one piece but when it comes to the trickster god, looks can be deceiving.]

Damn you all...

[Closed eyes open when the boy realizes he's no longer leaning against the stand the helm had been on and it takes a quick moment for him to realize. Nope, not in Oklahoma anymore. He fumbles to pick up the device when he notices it's not in his pocket, bloody fingers smearing the red over the camera lens before the feed goes out.]

11th Death

[Dextera is outside the church tonight, staring up at the sky. he seems pretty content with life - which is at odds with how he reacted when the network oh-so-kindly broadcasted one of his deaths and his sin - but since he's found a bit of peace, that's alright. Dextera is even smiling as he observes the sky.

...the moment is promptly ruined when he sneezes. pulling his coat tighter around him, Dextera pulls the device closer and types out something.]

I think it's getting colder. Can I ask why?

8th Seal Unlocked

[well today looks like it going to start off rather nicely. it's quite - no weird events from everyone's favorite ghost girl, no invading army from the other side. all in all a rather nice day in Nesreca.

shame it seems, thanks to the video feed suddenly clicking on, that someone has decided to sleep in on this very nice day.

Dainn is passed out on his bed on top of the covers oddly enough, though that cloak he wears all the time pretty much doubles as one, and is dead (or more dead) to the world. he's even snoring a little bit. not exactly the picture of gracefulness but the Immortal didn't really care all that much. it was hard enough to sleep on a bed and he didn't know how humans did it.

the feed continued to record the sleeping Immortal before it's suddenly pushed over by something. aside from Dainn's snoring, there's silence before a rapid click-clicking noise is heard off screen. it's kind of like someone tapping a polished surface with sharp nails.

the noise stops for a second before the device is moved by...something. whatever it is drags the device onto the bed with a thump, which is enough to wake Dainn with a rather undiginifed snort. he eyes the device with some measure of annoyence before speaking. it seems like he's addressing whatever is controlling the feed.]

Grew bored, did we? I wouldn't be surprised. I do not know how humans sleep on these things....

[and then he turns his attention onto the camara itself, managing a tiny smile after yawning.]

And how is everyone today? It seems like awhile since I spoke to anyone on this.

[those anon texts totally don't count. totally.]

10th Prophecy--[Memory] (Taken from the end of "Birthmark" in Season 4)

[The feed starts on the PDA, in a modern 21st century city, or so the view of the buildings--impossibly close together, like they were pushed--would show. It's a high view, Raven cautiously optimistic as she pauses--having done that very thing to said buildings hoping to stop him. Breathing, uniform on her arms torn and cowl down--and then there's an explosive burst of flame; a taller masculine form, armored and wearing a mask of two colors--with only one eye visible on the orange side--and a weird symbol on his forehead flies from it. Straight for her, tackling her.]

Memory continues )

[There is static for a moment before the feed cuts. Raven won't even look at her PDA, as it's flung to the other side of her room. Instead she's curling up on her bed--bundled in her cloak, and hiding. Too many things dredged up, which seems to be the point of this exercise.]

錄音 | 三

[ You haven't seen the last of the memories. Here's another one. By know, people are probably familiar enough with those from the Black Order to know that...most of the Exorcists have had one unhappy thing after another happening to them.

Even Lenalee. ]

But there are reasons why she hates God )

[ Lenalee hastily switches to text. ]

I was hoping no one saw that, but if you did, I'm sorry you had to see that [ They're not exactly crowning moments of her life. ] I'll be fine tomorrow, I promise. [ She hopes. Reliving this brings back some of the old emotions she felt, and she needs time to put them back into place. ]

第三十八錯覚; 「memory. action.」

[It’s a bright, sunny day outside, out in a field where there’s trees sparsely providing shade as the sun shines brightly. Then, a gloved hand comes up to block the sun’s rays, and then comes into view a field of dead lotus flowers, and just a ways past the gloved hand stands a young woman, blonde and dressed casually for the age, with her back turned.

“Hey, do you know what this flower is? It reaches for the sky.” The voice sounds like it belongs to a man, but it most definitely doesn’t belong to Kanda.

As the woman turns, the memory begins to fade out, her voice also growing fainter as she answers.

“A lotus flower. It grows from the mud, towards the sky, and makes the world a fragrant place.”

When the memory comes back into focus, it’s the same gloved hand, in a different field this time, reaching up toward the sky. There’s blood on the arm, the sleeve of the shown coat and glove are torn, providing some evidence of a kind of struggle.

The man’s voice speaks again, though it’s weaker now – hoarser, raspier. “I love you…forever.” The hand falls limply to the ground as a hideous looking akuma comes into view, resembling the appearance of a clown one would see in a horror show or house.

The akuma walks toward the man, cocking its head to one side. The man’s closing his eyes, and unfortunately the last thing he sees, hears, and feels, is the akuma above him. It bellows out “this is the final blow, exorcist!!” before there’s simply nothing.

Nothing but black. Cold, dark, endless black of death.

Then, there’s a bright light – back at the very first field of dead lotus. The very same hand’s reaching up to block the sun once more to get a better view.

It’s the woman that speaks up first. “I wish I could see it. The ground carpeted with flowers.”

“Maybe if we can see it someday, together…”

The woman turns towards the man, her face slightly flushed and a bright grin on her face, delighted by the idea. “Really? Even if we become grandpas and grandmas?”

“I’ll be waiting, forever.” The words echo, and once again things fade to black.

Major time shift. When things come back into focus again, buildings line the cobble streets, the neon signs, coupled with street lights, give illumination to the block during the night. Though, the street seems to be eerily empty with places that look like that caters to a…frisky and flamboyant lifestyle. (Cough, Cross, cough.)

Kanda’s with one other, a man of average height, fluffy brown hair pulled taut in a ponytail in back and thick not-quite-coke bottle glasses. Those of the Black Order will recognize him as none other than Johnny Gill.

There’s also a chubby girl wearing barely anything wearing a bear head mask (or is that really it’s head?), holding up a sign that reads “Sexy 500 ♥♥ More fire!”

The duo ignores the working girl and continues on, though they don’t make it very far before Johnny is grabbed by the working girl…and is taken into the air. Kidnapped. Kanda’s one to act quickly, ever, even with a few drinks in him. He activates his Innocence, sending it after the ‘girl’ as it tries to devour Johnny, its mouth open wide with a set of teeth that look like it belongs to a bear. It’s an akuma.

Before that happens, however, Mugen slices right through the akuma’s mouth, using its force to pin it to the brick wall of the closest building, dropping Johnny in the process. While Johnny’s down, Kanda uses him as a spring to lift himself up higher as he leaps up to take hold of his sword, literally crumbling the wall behind the akuma.

As he pulls his sword out, the akuma starts to laugh hysterically, calling Kanda a fool to have come back, that he should have just spent the rest of his life in peace, as the Order has no chance of winning. That akuma are being born more quickly, quickly quickly quickly— Clearly, he’s chosen hell.

But Kanda has none of it, choosing to ignore the akuma and kill it, leaving it to explode behind him as he lands safely back to the ground below. Johnny, having watched, does ask Kanda pretty much the same thing. Kanda answers as follows:

“I was the one that awakened him into Nea. … I didn’t care what happened to the Order… so, during the mission in Paris, when I caught a glimpse of that guy’s Noah transformation, I ignored it. Without even reporting it to Komui… I just let it be, because I hated the Order even more than the Noah and the akuma.” Kanda turns toward Johnny, giving the scientist a bit of a wry smile.

“But now…this regret simply won’t let me die peacefully.”

And then the feed ends.]

action;

[Those that decide to seek out Kanda will find him on the roof of the apartment building, sitting of the edge of the building and looking out at the city lights of Credinta, as it's nearing midnight. Past his bedtime. Don't worry, he's dressed for the chilly night. Just don't expect him to be very talkative at the moment.]

7th Seal Locked

[are you guys sick of the memories being posted on the network yet? well either way, here's one more.

it opens up with the sound of someone screaming.]

Sealed Away )

[a little while later Dainn's voice drifs through the device. he sounds calm but he was managing to keep his cool for the moment.]

Well well...wasn't that a blast from the past? Although I would have liked it if whoever was diving into my memories pick out a more happier one next time. Just a thought, okay?

[yeah. he's not happy about that one being aired.]

Chapter Thirty [Memory; Action]

The memory that plays out is vivid, full of details. The gift and the curse that is a Bookman's memory.

Staring up at a ceiling is one Bookman Junior, years younger with a uniform he doesn't even have anymore. An orange scarf so tattered that it's amazing it's still holding together. He's resting after getting back from a mission, wondering why it feels like that one made more of an imprint on him than any before.

Was it Doug? A Finder who had said Lavi's eye was like glass but had finally changed to something warmer.

Was it Celeste? The little girl who found herself wrapped up in the mission without knowing and had made a connection with both Doug and Lavi.

Or even still, was it the realization that he had a home to come back to for once. A term as foreign as it was familiar but it had never once applied to him. Lavi thought of the Order and he had a warmth in his chest as he thought about the various people who lived here with him. Doug, the old man, Lenalee, Kanda, Komui, Reever and Johnny and the others. He felt as if he belonged here.

And now he was just waiting for Doug to come home, his first friend. Doug had stayed behind in the town of Elysee to give a gift to Colette and make living arrangements for the young orphan. He was eager to know how the little girl reacted even if she never did call Lavi by his name.

Suddenly screams of terror an pain from the halls nearby rouse him from his bed. Lavi all but falls over himself trying to get out there with Innocence in hand, wondering what it was that could have caused the yells. Only...

Once he gets there he finds a number of Finders, all of them dead and impaled in the same fashion as those attacked by the Akuma in Elysee. Confusion clouds his thoughts, he got rid of that Akuma, he knows that he did. One of the men in the pile stirs, not quite dead and Lavi leaps to his side, kneeling.

"What happened here? Who did this?" An Akuma couldn't have gotten inside the Order, could it? There was the main gate that was able to detect Akuma and no one knew about the underground entrance via the river except Finders and Exorcists. He couldn't imagine one of them giving up that information even under duress.

"Do-Doug..." The Finder points down the hall in the direction that Lavi's friend had gone before succumbing to his injuries. Gritting his teeth Lavi gets up and follows after the young Finder, finally finding him. Only Doug isn't as the redhead left him.

Doug's eyes, once full of light and life are now dulled and darkened in a way that even Lavi's hadn't been. Eyes so dark they could only belong to an Akuma. Doug wasn't alone, a golem of the Millennium Earl's, Dobi, accompanies him in order to send a message to the Earl of the entrance's location. It's from Dobi that Lavi learns that Serge, owner of the diamond that was part of the fight in Elysee and former employer of Colette, thought the young girl had stolen it and strangled her to death. Doug had been so heartbroken when he found her body that he gave in to the Earl's wicked way of tricking mourners into bringing back their loved ones.

Doug had called back Colette's soul to the skeletal machine and Colette, under instruction of the Earl, killed Doug and put on his skin. A skin now transformed into a level-two Akuma, ready to attack and kill Lavi as it had the Finders in the hall.

Lavi hesitates in his grief for his friend - how could he kill Doug? - and is hit by one of the Akuma's attacks in the narrow hallway. He snaps out of his daze slowly, defending at first to keep from becoming injured even more. And then after he gathers enough strength, enough determination to do this horrible act, Lavi has tears in his eye as he ends Doug and Colette's existence.

He hears the old man's voice in the background, turning to look at a short man with a mostly bald head save for a long ponytail in the center and huge circles of kohl around his eyes. Bookman. Congratulating him on a job well done.

Inside Lavi didn't feel like being congratulated. Inside it felt as if his heart were breaking. But he couldn't show his grief, to do so would show to his mentor that he was growing a heart.

He must never grow a heart.

---

[Those that try to find Lavi after such a vivid memory won't find him in his room, won't find him where his projects are, won't find him anywhere near the apartment building at all. Even injured as he is from his trip home the only place the redhead will be found is a place that only one remaining person knows about. One of the ruined train cars that still has a roof, a place that he hid out months ago, if not more than a year ago.

He sits there huddled up on a mostly preserved bench seat under a protected part of the roof, it still had holes in it in places, with a supply of food and drink, his pillow and blanket. Perhaps he was running but he didn't care.]

But in sort of apology for having seen all that, there are presents for everyone (even the new people)! There will be a blanket outside everyone's rooms.
